5 Powerful “I AM” Biblical Affirmations

Are you interested in using affirmations to start your day with confidence and assurance in who you are?  If so, consider using I AM biblical affirmations.  Biblical affirmations point us back to who God says we are according to the scriptures.  The scriptures provide us with a solid foundation for biblical affirmations that are rooted in love, sacrifice, and forgiveness.  We find our identity, our purpose, our strength, and our reality in the words of God, our Faith when we speak biblical affirmations over our lives.

WHAT ARE AFFIRMATIONS?

First, what is an affirmation?  The verb, affirm means to agree, verify, or concur.  And the noun, affirmation can be defined as a declaration that something is true.  An affirmation can be a word or a short phrase or statement.

I started using positive affirmations a few years ago with little understanding on how it actually worked.  I wrote a few positive statements on index cards and recited the affirmations during my morning routine for a few weeks.  Ultimately, it helped.  I became more conscious of my thoughts throughout the day and I began to feel better about myself.

I would later learn about the science and history behind self or positive affirmations.

The use of affirmations now backed by neuroscience can be traced back to ancient times so affirmations are not new but through science we have a better understanding of how powerful they can be.

HOW DO AFFIRMATIONS WORK?

Behavioral studies in the form of neuro-linguistic programming and other studies served as the basis for understanding thought patterns. MRI evidence suggests that certain neural pathways are increased when people practice affirmations.  Self-affirmation theory, a psychological concept which was coined by Claude Steele in the 1980s.

Neuroscience reveals that we can consciously rewire thought patterns that positively affect the subconscious mind with the words that we speak.  According to Psychology Today,

affirmations are used to reprogram the subconscious, to encourage us to believe certain things about ourselves or about the world and our place within it. They are also used to help us create the reality we want.

The subconscious mind plays a major part in how we see ourselves and the world. Our memories, values, and experiences are stored in our subconscious mind where 50-60% of our mental processes occur.  The mind is complex indeed, but we hold the power to shift our reality through words.

Yes, life and death are in the power of the tongue as noted in Proverbs 18:21. When we recite biblical affirmations, we speak life which has the power to transform and yes rewire our thoughts.

HOW DO I START?

Consider using my prayer meditation cards which include scriptures and meditation affirmations that may be used to cultivate and/or deep your time of daily prayer and meditation.

Or you may start with the five biblical affirmations listed below during your morning and evening prayer and meditation time.  As you prepare pray and ask God to show you when and how to use them.  I would recommend selecting one affirmation and commit saying it 40 daily for at least 40 days.

Why?

The number forty represents a time of testing throughout the bible.  Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days, Moses was in the desert for 40 years, and there are other accounts where 40 is the length of time God uses to carry out his plan.

According to Our Subconscious Mind,

This subconscious reprogramming continues until we reach the age of 31 and by then 95% of our life, beliefs, thoughts, ideas and doubts controlled by our subconscious mind.

Therefore, reprogramming your subconscious mind can take a considerable amount of time, hard work and conscious effort to reprogram towards your desires, goals and fulfilment.

Ultimately, you are not on this journey alone. With God and the power of the Holy Spirit shifting and renewing your mind IS possible!
